Genetics in Medicine Open announces the Rising Scholar Trainee Award

With the aim of encouraging professional development, Genetics in Medicine Open (GIM Open) and the ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine announce a new annual award recognizing the most outstanding research publication by a trainee.

Eligible individuals are ABMGG-, ACGC-accredited program trainees or international equivalent, or former trainees in their first-year post-training (for genetic counselors, first-year post-master’s degree), who have been first author, co-first author or corresponding author on a paper published in Genetics in Medicine Open during the preceding calendar year. In countries with programs that do not undergo board accreditation, eligibility will be independently assessed.

Eligible trainees should be identified upon submission of manuscripts to GIM Open. Original research articles, brief reports, systematic reviews and education reports are eligible categories. A GIM Open editorial board committee will select the winning trainee based on scientific impact, publication novelty, methodological innovation, and contributions to research that promotes an environment of respect and fairness.

The award will be presented each year at the ACMG Annual Meeting and consists of a $1,000 cash prize for the awardee, as well as support for the cost of travel, hotel and registration (restrictions apply).
